When Thinking About Yourself Multiplies Your Problems

WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT YOURSELF, THE MORE YOUR PROBLEMS GROW

For twenty-three years, I moped about how much of a loser I was and thought seeing a therapist would somehow change my life.

Now, my fat face is elevated above the waves and I never feel like a failure.

Here’s what I want you to think about instead..

If a tree falls in the middle of a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

The answer is no.

If no one is around to hear the air vibrate, the sound will never exist.

And your brain is like a limitless forest with infinite thoughts that are constantly falling.

When you focus on yourself for too long, of course you’ll hear it crash.

“Am I gaining weight?” - “Why does no one like me?” - “I don’t have time right now” - “Why won’t anyone listen to me?” —

And the longer you stay, the louder your thoughts become.

*CRASH* “I look like the Michelin Man” *BANG* “Everybody hates me” *BOOM* “I never have time for anything” *THUD* “No one ever listens to me” —

Until your self-perception grinds in a rusty bowl of resentment.

But you’re not trapped.

There are many ways to ascend above your egocentric forest.

One way is by going for a 5-minute walk (somewhere you know is safe).

No phone. No music. No other person with you.

Just take in the sound of birds chirping, dogs playing, your footsteps and bushes waving.

Or give a genuine compliment to strangers.

In-fact … here’s a challenge

Go out to your local park or shopping centre today and compliment 5 complete strangers.

And share your experience with me at [email protected] by answering 3 simple questions:

  1. What did you take away from this experience?

  2. What would you do next time?

  3. How do you feel now?

(I reply to every single email)

The choice is yours..

Either stay trapped as a now aware narcissist for decades longer, or run your own life and create the world you truly want to live in.

Stay caffeinated.
